Mighty Marathon Men!
We salute all those supporters for their great efforts in helping to raise vital funds for HVP!
London Marathon 2004
Congratulations to Mark Lobel and Matthew Hilton-Dennis for completing the London Marathon 2004. Here’s what they had to say:
“All the way through the marathon you feel as though a tremendous current of people is buoying you along and the sheer numbers of runners taking part make this an incredibly communal event. This is not to mention the thousands of spectators lining the route, applauding, dancing, singing, playing everything from Jazz to Japanese drumming, handing out what could be sweets or Vaseline from a distance, and urging you on to that hallowed finishing line on the Mall. Yet at the same time it is a very personal occasion. It is a wonderful chance to raise awareness and some serious money for a cause in need of help. Money raised for HVP UK is approaching £1200 and it is quite humbling to receive that kind of response.”
- Matthew Hilton-Dennis
“ The run itself was really enjoyable. When else in London is it anything goes? The support was invaluable and I am now addicted to Lucozade Sport! After a big last minute push I think I have raised about two and a half thousand pounds for HVP UK and let a lot more people know about it in the process. It was a pity the weather was grim but that did not spoil three months of really constructive training and an unforgettable day filled with all sorts of emotions! “
- Mark Lobel
London Marathon 2002
Many congratulations to Sophie Brook who ran the 2002 London marathon in aid of HVP. Sophie, a former HVP Thali volunteer, raised around £850.
“ I’ve never regretted doing the London Marathon, although at times it was tough. Anyone can do a marathon, regardless of their state of fitness, so…go for it and reap the rewards of your madness; helping two fantastic causes in the process – HVP and yourself!”
London Marathon 1999
All's Well That Ends Well!In April 1999, Matt Kelleher, a former volunteer at HVP Dang, competed in the annual London Marathon in order to raise funds for HVP. Click here to read his account.
Birmingham students raise over £1000 for HVP
HVP-UK would like to say a huge thank you to the students of The City Technology College of Kingshurst, Birmingham. Throughout the school year of 2002 students raised over £1,100 through activities including sleepovers, fancy dress, swimathons, a slave auction, a non-uniform day and a fashion show.
The visit of HVP founder and co-ordinator, CM Yogi, to their school in 2001 sparked students’ interest in life in Nepal and the work of HVP. Many thanks to teacher Roz Trudgon and all the students for their incredible efforts!
Every Little Helps
In November 2001, Jenny Noreng (Former HVP UK Sponsorship Coordinator) set up a foreign currency collection box for staff at the Reception area of her previous employer, CH2M HILL. Many of Jenny's colleagues used to travel to all corners of the globe as part of their job as environmental consultants, and would end up with an interesting selection of coins and notes from different countries across the world. Many of the coins and notes were worth very little and could therefore not be changed at the normal high street bank, yet it seemed a waste to leave all this money lying around in peoples drawers for no use.
Jenny contacted a private company, located in the heart of Mayfair, London, which specialises in changing foreign currencies for some of the largest UK charities, such as the British Heart Foundation. Over £175 was raised through foreign currency collection at CH2M HILL and CSM Parliamentary Consultants and was used to help provide of school games and basic furniture for the school in Thali.
HVP-UK would like to thank CH2M HILL and CSM Parliamentary Consultant's employees for their great effort in collecting money for the HVP cause. It's encouraging to see how currency worthless on its own, can collectively provide so much joy for children in the HVP schools.
