Dang is a valley region situated in the mid-West part of Nepal. It is a predominantly rural area and HVP Dang is located in the district’s major town of Gorahi, about 275km from Kathmandu. It’s hard to believe that Kathmandu and Dang belong to the same country. Not only are the landscapes and climate so different, but also their ambiences.
HVP Dang was established in 1990 and draws boys and girls from Gorahi and the nearby villages. With the help of HVP UK and other international donors, the school was able to purchase its own land and construct a purpose made school building in 2001. The school now provides education for around 450 to 500 children.
Like HVP Central in Kathmandu, HVP Dang also has a hostel facility allowing boys and girls from inaccessible villages or with difficult home circumstances to live on-site and be catered for in a comfortable, homely environment. Many of the children who depend on the hostel come from extremely poor families. Several are orphans or victims of the current conflict in the country and receive sponsorship in the form of free meals and accommodation.
