What We Do

HVP UK Sponsorship Programme

There is a long list of children waiting to benefit from HVP UK's Sponsorship Programme. Why not make a difference to a child's life and become a sponsor today?

From as little as £10 per month, you can help us support children in real need. Why not share sponsorship together with a friend or family member? We guarantee your help can make a positive difference.

Email hvpuk.org.uk@gmail.com for full details and to start sponsoring.

There are now over seventy children across the three HVP schools being sponsored by supporters in the UK. Most of these children come from extremely poor families and difficult backgrounds. Several are orphans or victims of the current violence in the country. Many families in Nepal are rarely able to earn enough to pay for any more than basic living costs, and often a child may be encouraged to work from as early age as possible.

HVP UK’s Sponsorship Programme typically provides support for:

- Children whose parents are too poor to support them
- Children whose parents are too sick to work
- Children orphaned by war (both by the Maoists and by Government troops)
- Children simply abandoned by their parents to the support of the community
- Children of single mothers

This has enabled many poor and disadvantaged boys and girls to enjoy an education that they would otherwise never have. In particular sponsorship is a crucial need in Dang where most of the children being sponsored come from incredibly poor communities, many with their own tragic stories of troubled family life. Ancient prejudices such as caste discrimination are sadly still alive in much of rural Nepal. Many children come from lower or so called ‘untouchable’ castes, others from the traditionally poor and marginalized ‘Tharu’ ethnic group. Several are orphans or from war-affected families.

HVP UK sponsors pay a regular monthly gift to sponsor a child. Sponsoring a day student provides a child with a free education at one of the HVP UK schools. Sponsoring a boarder provides a child with food, accommodation, uniform, books, education and regular care. The hostels at the HVP schools are staffed by capable resident male and female teachers. (The HVP Dang hostel provides accommodation for both boys and girls) The atmosphere is that of a family home, and provides an extremely supportive environment for a child with inadequate or difficult home circumstances to grow up in.
