Also if you are a UK taxpayer we may also be to increase your donation to us by 28% at no cost to yourself through Gift Aid.
Every five extra members we can secure means an additional £100 to help the work in Nepal. HVP Membership also ensures that you receive our HVP UK Newsletters, invitations to HVP social occasions and other HVP-related events.

GIVE A DONATION
HVP UK’s achievements to date have only been possible due to the generous help of our supporters. You can donate to fund a specific appeal such as funding the purchase of classroom materials, helping improve basic school infrastructure, or by making a general donation.
We are grateful for any amount you can give us.To give a donation to HVP click here for a donation form or contact HVP UK Treasurer, Alan Marklew at stevenslouisa@yahoo.co.uk
SPONSOR A CHILD
HVP UK’ Sponsorship Programme has enabled many children to enjoy an education they would previously never have access to. There are now over seventy children across the three HVP schools being sponsored by supporters in the UK. Most of them come from extremely poor families and difficult backgrounds. Several are orphans or victims of the current violence in the country.
From as little as ten pounds each month, you can help by sponsoring a child and allow them to benefit from the quality, visionary education that the HVP schools provide.

PAYROLL GIVING
If your company operates a payroll giving scheme, you could be making a regular, hassle-free monthly donation to HVP UK that you won't even notice, and the tax-man won't have a chance to take a cut!
Payroll giving is where employees are able to volunteer to donate a fixed amount each payday. Not only does the employee control the amount which they give, but they can also specify which charity, or charities, they wish to support, eg HVP UK! The benefit to charities is that it can provide a regular and reliable flow of income. Presently, some £95 million per annum is given in this way in the UK.
Could your company set up a payroll giving scheme to make it easier for your employees to help worthwhile causes such as HVP UK? Visit www.payrollgiving.com to find out how. Currently, for smaller companies with up to 499 employees, the Home Office is offering grants to be used at the employer’s discretion in order to promote the uptake of payroll giving. These grants will be available only to the end of 2006.
Once a scheme is set up, it can be operated with minimum trouble to the employer. The employees complete forms stating the amount, and the charity or charities they wish to support. The total amount from all employees who join the scheme is then passed to an approved agency, such as Payroll Giving in Action (PGA) who will carry out all the administration and channel the funds to the nominated charities. Once set up, the system is simple and low cost to operate for employers, employees and charities.
If you are setting up a payroll giving scheme and would like some information about HVP UK to distribute to employees looking for a cause to support, contact Matt Daw for a pack of leaflets and information sheets.
For more information, consult the PGA website at www.payrollgiving.com
HELP US WITH FUNDRAISING
Why not consider doing some fundraising? In the past we have had great success from supporters who have taken the initiative to organise both small-scale and larger fundraising activities such as:
Sponsored sporting events: Several supporters have raised considerable funds through running in the London Marathon, triathlons and other similar competitive events. You can achieve personal goals by doing a sponsored activity – and raise money at the same time.
- Sophie Brook, HVP UK member & marathon runner 2002.
“ I’ve never regretted doing the London Marathon, although at times it was tough. Anyone can do a marathon, regardless of their state of fitness, so….go for it and reap the rewards of your madness; helping two fantastic causes in the process – HVP and yourself!”These are just a few examples of fun activities you could do while helping raise funds for HVP UK. We really need more people to help in simple ways like this.

GET INVOLVED IN THE HVP UK COMMITTEE
“I encourage you youngsters to try and get involved with HVP UK. We need many hands to help with the great work”
         - C.M. Yogi, HVP Nepal co-founder & director
A small team of UK volunteers form the committee that looks after the organisation and administration of the charity. This includes tasks such as managing HVP UK funds, keeping track of membership records, co-ordinating the sponsorship programme, liaising with donors and supporters, contributing to the HVP UK newsletter and maintenance of the website. The committee meet several times a year to review progress, discuss ideas and make collective decisions.
HVP UK’s committee is made up of individuals spread across the UK. All help out in a purely voluntary capacity, as and when they can, in their free time. We are very under-resourced and desperate for more help
If you are keen to support HVP, looking to do some voluntary charity work and can spare some time to help out on a regular or ‘one off’ basis this might be just the thing for you?

LEAVING A LEGACY
Leaving a legacy to HVP UK is the most lasting gift you could make. The funds we receive from legacies will ensure that we can continue to support the work of HVP in Nepal. Leaving a legacy can save on tax as any donation will be deducted from the worth of an estate before any inheritance tax liabilities are calculated.
HVP UK would prefer that you did not leave a legacy for a specific project. The reason for this is that our projects reflect current concerns and are therefore dynamic; hence they will alter over the years.
We will be happy to give you any advice we can on how to set up a legacy for HVP UK, however, we would like to stress that we do not have legal expertise and would therefore recommend that you consult your bank or legal advisor who will be able to give you professional advice.
If you wish to discuss leaving a legacy please contact HVP UK Trustee, Kate Marklew at katemarklew@freeuk.com
GIFT AID
The Gift Aid scheme enables us to claim back any tax paid on your donations. For the scheme to apply, you must pay an amount of UK income and/or capital gains tax at least equal to that which we will claim on your donations in the tax year.
Using Gift Aid currently means that for every pound that you give, HVP gets an extra 28 pence, helping your donation to go further. So for every £10 you give HVP UK will get another £2.80 from the government.
It’s as simple as that!
